UUJMCA is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to faithful, relational, and strategic justice work throughout America’s largest and most progressive state.
Our new Executive Director must be able to work with UU clergy and lay leaders as well as impacted communities and interfaith and secular allies on a focused range of issues statewide, and to represent UUJMCA within the UU movement. We’re looking for a visionary and strategic thinker who can engage and inspire people face-to-face and virtually. The position requires someone grounded in UU values, knowledgeable in the culture and workings of state government, adept at building and maintaining connections, and committed to the mission of empowering UU individuals and congregations to advance justice.
Fundraising, leadership training, and online presence are all critical to sustaining this mission, and the Executive Director will be expected to manage those efforts with clarity and enthusiasm. Our current top-priority issues are immigrant justice, health care for all, and economic justice. Our stakeholders include UU congregations and clergy, individual UUs, coalition partners, and other Californians who share UU values.
It is the responsibility of the Executive Director to ensure that the organization’s resources are utilized most effectively toward the organization’s ends. UUJMCA’s ends are:
- California Unitarian Universalists have access to and participate in statewide justice education, advocacy, and witness that deepens their faith and changes life for the better in California.
- California Unitarian Universalist justice leaders are trained, effective, inspiring, and connected.
- California Unitarian Universalist congregations have strong justice ministries.
- California policymakers and justice leaders value UUJMCA as a visible and credible partner in advancing justice in California.
This full-time position, to start early 2019, can be located anywhere in California with good access to an airport. Annual compensation $60,000 plus benefits. For further information, contact any UUJMCA board member or outgoing Executive Director Evan Junker. Information is also available at uujmca.org/search.
