Take action to UU the Vote in 2020. Right now, the biggest ask from our national partners is to join phone banking efforts to ensure voters are registered and know where & how they can vote. Our statewide partners are inviting us to join them in contacting California voters to make sure they know the importance of certain statewide propositions on the ballot this year. Learn more about these opportunities below – if you’d like to share an opportunity here, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Phone Banking in California
California voters have an opportunity to enact real economic justice on our ballot this November. UUJMCA is proud to support the “Schools & Communities First” Proposition (Proposition 15), which will put $12 billion dollars back into schools & communities every year by closing a commercial property tax loophole. You can learn more about this initiative, its impact, and its protections for homeowners, renters, small businesses, and agricultural land by going to yes15.org.

“From Worship to Work” Sunday Afternoon Phone Banks
“Our worship is over, and our service begins.” Put your faith immediately into action following your congregation’s worship on Sunday! Every Sunday in September & October, UUJMCA is co-hosting phone banking parties to end voter suppression with “Reclaim Our Vote.” Beginning Sunday, September 6, UUs around California (and the country!) are encouraged to attend our “From Worship to Work” phone bank parties from 1-3pm. All of these sessions will include training and technical support.
National Phone Banks
UUJMCA is excited to support our sibling UU State Action Networks in Florida and Wisconsin as they work alongside their community partners to end voter suppression and get out the vote. They’ve asked for our help, so let’s show up and help carry the load!
As Unitarian Universalists the mandate is clear – if we Side With Love, we center the oppressed, we show up in the face of injustice, and we build community in service of creating a world in which all are free! In 2020, when we vote love, we are committing ourselves to a radical and expansive love that confronts and dismantles systems and behaviors of domination and oppression, while building thriving, inclusive and democratic communities. When we defeat hate, we reject, confront, and divest from systems and institutions that seek to diminish the lives, dignity, and agency of all people.
Vote Forward Letter Writing (National)
While many of our efforts in the home stretch of our 2020 UU the Vote ministries will focus on phone and text banking, we know that not everyone is able to make calls. If that’s the case, sign up to write letters with Vote Forward!
Sending a Vote Forward letter is one of the easiest things you can do to increase turnout. It takes two minutes and one stamp, and meaningfully increases the odds that the recipient will vote. It’s a concrete action you can take, no matter where you live, to get unlikely-to-vote fellow citizens in key voter suppression states to the polls.
Save the Date!
September 22: In honor of National Voter Registration Day, UU the Vote will be hosting an online rally to connect and energize all of us around the country as we UU the Vote & Vote Love in 2020!
First Week of October: UU the Vote will be hosting a full WEEK OF ACTION to help get out the vote, end voter suppression, and UU the Vote in key states.
