Day 30. Reform Not Punishment.

The US Justice system is both broken and designed to overly criminalize and incarcerate people of color, the poor, and other marginalized people including those who are gender diverse. Democracy is strongest when it includes everyone therefore the time to demand reform is now. We need to vote to shutdown this system that celebrates capitalism, racism, and heteronormativity and disenfranchises all others. The Vera Institute of Justice is here to teach us how we can engage in reform both through direct action and at the ballot box. Vote for policies that promote equity and inclusion.

We are not the first and will not be the last to face fascists, antisemites, racists, homophobes, and misogynists hungry for power. What can we learn from the past to assure our success in protecting democracy?
