We support AB 1593, which extends eligibility for the existing California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) to some of the most vulnerable working Californians. Specifically, AB 1593 allows those who use an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to file to be able to benefit from this tax credit.

CalEITC’s beginnings in 2015 was an important first step in addressing the impacts of poverty among people of all ages, but it was incomplete. Documented and undocumented immigrants, though paying billions a year in income, property, and sales taxes, are excluded from this life-changing program. AB 1593 remedies that disparity and moves us closer to keeping ALL Californians out of poverty.

Passing AB 1583 and extending eligibility to the 1.1 million people left out of this program is the moral and right thing to do. Nobody, regardless of immigration or documentation status, should be left to struggle alone.

Join UUJMCA and our partners in the movement to make #CalEITC available to ALL Californians. Support immigrants and immigrant families today by contacting your California legislators and asking them to support AB 1593 (California Earned Income Tax Credit Expansion)!
