CA legislation SB1289 (Dignity Not Detention)is authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens). This groundbreaking legislation in California will prohibit California cities and counties from contracting with private prisons for immigration detention. It also will codify federal standards on immigration detention and give people in immigration detention a private right of action.

AB1066 (Farm Workers Overtime Pay) is authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, San Diego. Current state law requires farms to pay time-and-a-half only if an employee works more than 10 hours in a day or 60 hours in a week. This bill would change that to 40 hours and 8 hours per day and would be compatible with most other workers in California.

TRUTH Act (AB2792) is authored by Assemblyman Rob Bonta, Oakland with principal co-author Assemblyman Luis Alejo, Salinas. The bill seeks to hold Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) accountable for tactics which are thrusting local law enforcement into the role of federal deportation agents.
